My tux just got home from performing in four concerts in Barcelona hoping to find a reason to go to Columbia.  Nope.  No nominations for MCMLA Awards yet.  C'mon!  We've got some great people!  Nominate them!

The deadline is now September 1.  More information and nomination forms are at http://www.mcmla.org/honorsawards

Also (an admittedly easier task), be sure to nominate yourself or another for MCMLA Stars at http://www.mcmla.org/stars/ by September 8.

It's almost the Ides of July, named for Julius Caesar, whose story as told by Shakespeare you may have read in high school.  That means you have a little over two weeks to get your nominations in for MCMLA awards.

You may be wondering, "Who should I nominate?"

At one point in that play, Cassius says, "The fault, dear Brutus, lies not in our stars."  In the case of MCMLA awards, the fault lies not there, but an answer does - in the MCMLA STARS Program - our recognition of individual achievements (new AHIP membership or higher status, articles or books published, awards received, classes taught,  committees and boards served, grants received, innovations launched, colleagues mentored, offices held, posters and presentations shared, promotions earned at work) from the past year.  But those achievements add up.

Just look at the annual lists linked from the STARS Program page.  You'll see that several names appear again and again from year to year.  And that under many of the names there are multiple items.  You get the idea?

So take a stab at nominating someone.  Details of the awards (including past winners - no sense duplicating) are linked from the Honors and Awards page.  Hope to hear from you by August 1, and to see you and your nominee again not at Philippi but in Columbia.

BTW, the Stars Nomination Form is now live on the STARS Program page to encourage future award winners.

Help us update our membership records. Check your membership record and that of your colleagues. Let us know what years we need to add or remove.

Please visit this webpage on the MCMLA website, http://www.mcmla.org/memberscommittee. Click on the link to the Membership History Project 2017. You will need to login. A link to an online form is available to submit your updates.

In the past, the Chapter maintained a print directory of members. Our Chapter archives has some years, but not all. Jackie Hittner and Holly Henderson recently compiled the membership data we could find. We'd like your help to review the accuracy of this information. Around 2010-2011 the Chapter's membership history went online, so it's the years before 2010-2011 that we need your help.

Medical librarians are high achievers.  We all know that.  But the world – especially healthcare execs – don’t know that.  We need to SHOW them.

One way we do that is through MCMLA Awards – we recognize the highest achievers among us, and tell their higher-ups about it, and make it easy for them to tell the rest of the world.  That’ll be my job at and after the 2017 MCMLA Annual Meeting, “SHOW ME – ONE HEALTH” in the Show Me State of Missouri October 9-11 – SHOW YOU the best of the best at the meeting, and then SHOW THEM (them being the world) with followup letters and press releases.

But first – you need to SHOW ME who you consider the best.  Nominations are open for the 2017 Awards.

    The Big Three are:

    Hetzner Award
This award recognizes an academic health sciences librarian who has achieved a high level of professional accomplishment. The individual must be a member of MCMLA and work in an academic health sciences library.

    McDowell Award
This award honors a chapter member who has made an outstanding contribution to hospital librarianship. To be eligible, an individual must be a member of MCMLA and work in a hospital library.

    Outstanding Achievement Award
This award honors a member for contributions to health sciences/hospital libraries, to the profession, goals, and objectives of the chapter.

Nominations for all awards are due by August 1. The nomination form and instructions are available on the MCMLA website [http://mcmla.org/nominate].  Send any questions to Honors and Awards Committee Chair Jerry Carlson [jerry.carlson@uchealth.org] or call 970-495-7770.
