Jenny Lake. MCMLA member Jenny Garcia, was named for Jenny Lake. Here's her story:
My parents were in their forties when they discovered that they were going
to be parents again. One month before I was born, my older sister was
married. My mother wanted to do something special to welcome her new
son-in-law into the family, so she offered to let him name the new baby. As
it turned out, I was born at home in Lander, Wyoming, and Bill was one of
the first ones to hold me. It was his first experience with a newborn and he
was impressed by the strength in my little fingers as I gripped his finger.
He informed my family that he would name me after the most beautiful place
he had ever been, the place where he and my sister had spent their
honeymoon--Jenny Lake and Leigh Lake. Although we had visited the Tetons
many times when I was a small child, the last time I had been there I was
thirteen. While attending MCMLA I had the opportunity to hike on the trails
by the lakes and realized that I had forgotten that a long narrow lake
separates the two. I'm extremely pleased that my sister and her groom hiked
the one mile trail to Leigh Lake. Otherwise my name would have been Jenny
String Jones rather than Jenny Leigh Jones.
